Mineral Mayhem: About

Mineral Mayhem

You will find, on this page, all the information you might need to play the game.

Starting up your game

Starting up the game, you will have 4 choices on the main menu: play, high scores, settings and quit. You might not want to select quit first since, fun fact, it closes the game. You may want to play the game though, so click play.

The play menu

On the play menu, you can set the game rules. The game rules and what they do are as follows:

-One hit mode: can be toggled on or off. If activated, all enemies and power-ups will require only one hit to die or collect. A good setting to make the game easy.

-Power-ups: can be toggled on or off. If "No power-ups" is selected, no power-ups will spawn. A good setting to make the game just a bit harder.

-Endless mode: can be toggled on or off. If toggled on, the game will never end until you quit. Your score won't be recorded and your health won't decrease. A good setting to try to get used to playing the game, A practice mode.

-Hearts: can be set to a value between 1 and 5. Sets the number of hearts/lives you will have in-game.

-Enemy Speed: can be set to a value between 1 and 5. Sets the enemy speed to the slowest at 1 and to the fastest at 5.

-Difficulty: can be set to a value between 1 and 5. Sets the game's difficulty. Please check the difficulty section to learn more about this setting.

-Day/Night mode: can be toggled on or off. It is a simple cosmetic change; it sets the time of the day and makes enemies and power-ups glow.

-Difficulty Increase: can be set to 4 different modes: no difficulty increase, only difficulty increase, only speed increase or speed and difficulty increase. According to your selection, the game will higher the difficulty or enemy speed after a certain score. Please check the graphic below for more info.

After setting up the game rules, you can press start to play the actual game!

How to play?

The game is very simple to play. Press the arrow keys to shoot in the direction you want. Keep in mind that each press counts as one hit, so to kill an enemy with more than one life you will have to press the same button a few times. The same thing applies for power-ups which you can collect by shooting at. Press escape to pause the game and access the pause menu.

Score

If you aren't playing in endless mode, your score will be shown on the top right corner. Each time you hit an enemy, your score will increase by 5 and when you hit a power-up it will increase by 10. Your high score will be registered according to the difficulty level you're playing on. Go to the high scores menu to access them.

Power-ups

If you aren't playing without power-ups, you will see some power-ups appear from time to time. They require you to hit them twice to collect them. If you don't manage to collect them before they touch you, don't worry, they won't do any damage. There are 4 different power-ups and their properties are as follows:
-Heart: when collected, will replenish one heart if your health isn't already full.
-Lock: when collected, will block a randomly chosen door for 5 seconds, making it impossible for enemies or power-ups to come from that side.
-Fire: when collected, will shoot fire towards all 4 directions damaging enemies every 0,25 seconds by 1 heart for 5 seconds.
-Freeze: when collected, will freeze the enemies wherever they are for 5 seconds.
-Damage boost: when collected, will multiply the damage dealt by 2 for 10 seconds.
-Shield: when collected, will protect the player from taking damage for 5 seconds.

High scores menu

You can access your high scores by going to the high scores menu from the main menu. You will find your high scores registered according to the difficulty level. You can also press the reset high scores button to reset them but be careful not to do it by accident because you cannot get your high scores back.

Settings menu

You can access the settings menu via the main menu. Here, you will have 3 different options: SFX volume, music volume and UI size. What they do is as follows:
-SFX Volume: use the slider to change the special effects volume.
-Music volume: use the slider to change the music volume.
-UI size: use the slider to change your user interface size. Useful when playing on different resolutions. Might cause a few problems in some cases of use.
